Riyad Mahrez: I’m Leaving Leicester City

Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez has announced he wants to leave the club. The 26-year-old, who joined from French club Le Havre for a reported £400,000 in 2014, said he had agreed “to stay for another season” following “a good discussion with the chairman” after the Foxes won the Premier League last year. But he added he was “fiercely ambitious” and had “informed the club I feel now is the time to move on.” Mahrez, PFA player of the year in 2016, made 48 Foxes appearances this season. He scored 10 goals and provided seven assists as Leicester recovered from a poor start to finish 12th in the league this year and reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

Acting President, Yemi Osibanjo signs new laws that allows the use of motor vehicles and other movable assets as collateral for bank loan

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has signed two new laws that will facilitate access to more affordable credit facilities for businesses in the country. The new Acts are the Secured Transactions in Movable Assets Act, 2017 (otherwise known as Collateral Registry Act) and the Credit Reporting Act, 2017. In a statement released by Osibanjo's spokesman, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo’s spokesman, he said; "The passage of these Acts would facilitate the achievement of the goals of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) set up by President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2016 and chaired by the Vice-President to progressively make Nigeria an easier place for businesses to start and thrive. "

Senate stops Port Harcourt Refinery Concession To Agip

The Senate has asked the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to halt its effort to  handover the Port Harcourt refinery to Agip and Oando. The handover was to allow for the repairs and the operation of the facility. The Senate said on Tuesday that the process should be suspended pending its investigation amid concerns over the transparency of the process. The Minister of Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, had on May 9 announced that the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, a subsidiary of the Italian oil giant, Eni, had committed to repairing the Port Harcourt refinery, as part of a $15 billion investment that includes building a 150 thousand barrel per day refinery and a power plant. The plan was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s drive to end fuel importation by 2019, Mr. Kachikwu said. But following a motion by Mohammed Sabo, APC-Jigawa, on Tuesday, the Senate expressed worry with the process, allegedly characterized by lack of clarity, due process and transparency. According to reports on PREMIUM TIMES, Several police officers are feared to have been killed Tuesday night after suspected officials of the Nigerian Navy stormed a police division in Calabar, southern Nigeria. Witnesses told PREMIUM TIMES the attack, which began shortly after 8:30 p.m., was still underway as at 10:19 p.m. at Akim Divisional Headquarters. “The police station is still burning as we speak,” a horrified witness told PREMIUM TIMES. Naval spokesperson, Suleiman Dahun, told PREMIUM TIMES he wasn’t aware of the development as at 10:26 p.m., promising to revert after his findings.

Tuesday afternoon around the Gbagada axis of Lagos State, this kidnapper was caught when he tried to kidnapped a baby and the baby's Grandma. According to an eye witness to spoke to LIB, 'the mother of the little baby just parked, left the Granny and baby in the car so she could use a nearby ATM. She left the car engine on and before she returned the kidnapper entered the car and was drove off'. He continued to tell us that, 'thank God for this soldier guy that just chased him down with a motorbike and it was really rough. The car somersaulted and the baby and grandma were both rescued with little injuries'.

Workers of National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, on Monday, called off their one-month-old strike. All health workers in the facilities except doctors had been on strike since April 24. The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions (JACTU) of the hospital, Mr Cyprian Orjinta, announced the suspension of the strike in a statement made available to NAN in Enugu. “Following a successful meeting between the management of National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu and JACTU held on Thursday, May 25, which was followed by the Congress of the Union on May 27, the Union hereby suspends the current strike with effect from Tuesday, May 30.

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has given a stern warning to army officials to stay off politics and politically related activities. Mr. Buratai gave the order on Tuesday via a statement issued by the Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, a brigadier general. “This is to inform the public that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Nigerian Army, has received information that some individuals have been approaching some officers and soldiers for undisclosed political reasons. On the basis of that, he has warned such persons to desist from these acts”. The Federal Government has ordered health workers to intensify screening of passengers coming into the country as part of deliberate efforts to check possible spread of Ebola virus. The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said this when he briefed State House correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which was presided over by acting President Yemi Osinbajo. The US Justice Department has appointed former FBI Director, Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee the federal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, including potential collusion between Trump campaign associates and Russian officials. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller to the position in a letter that partly reads, 'as special counsel, Mueller is authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters.

Censors Board Denies Registering Omoni Oboli's Okafor's Law In 2014 as copyright case continues

The case in the matter of Omoni Oboli and Raconteur Productions regarding the copyright violation and theft of the “Okafor’s Law” continued yesterday at the Federal High court sitting at the Lagos Judiciary division before Hon Ibrahim Buba.J The key witness was Mrs Obasi , a senior censors officer from the National Video and Film censors board (NFVCB) who stated that a film with the same title cannot be licensed twice. She only confirmed the the registration of the Film “Okafor’s Law” done by Filmone Distribution on the 21st of March 2017. Omoni's Lawyer presented the receipt of payment for the same film dated 11/09/2014, however the censors officer from the NFVCB reiterated that before a film can be certified a search is carried out on the title list in their record to ascertain whether such name had been used previous, and as at the time Film One wanted to register “Okafor’s Law” there was no record of Okafor’s Law being done previously.

Gunmen open fire at a mosque in Niger state, kill 20

No fewer than 20 persons have been confirmed dead after unknown gunmen opened fire while they were praying at a mosque in Etogi community in Mokwa LGA of Niger State yesterday May 14th. According to residents of the community, the attack is suspected to be a reprisal one after a herdsman was recently killed during a land dispute between Fulani youths and members of the community.
