134 More Nigerians Evacuated From Libya

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the European Union (EU) have evacuated 134 more Nigerians from Libya. Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South-West Zone, confirmed the development on Saturday in Lagos. Farinloye said the new batch of returnees arrived at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Friday at 10.20 p.m.

Buhari signs NDDC Act into law

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law the Niger Delta Development Commission (Establishment) Amendment Act, 2017. The Act includes the gas producing and gas processing companies in the list of agencies that are contributing to the Niger Delta Development Commission in addition to the Oil companies in a bid to increase funding of the Commission for effective discharge of its duties. Previously, the NDDC Acts excluded the gas companies.  The Act makes it explicit that the Gas companies have to be included. This is to diversify the sources of funding for the NDDC for the economic wellbeing of the region. According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, (senate), Senator Ita Enang, the Federal Capital Appropriation Act also assented to, authorises the Federal Capital Territory Administration to legally and legitimately provide funds out of its Statutory Revenue Fund for recurrent and capital expenditure. The Nigerian Army has announced major sake-up of some senior officers. Those redeployed include major generals and brigadier generals. The redeployment takes effect from 2nd January 2018. A statement announcing the development read: “The Nigerian Army has today Friday 29th December 2017, released the 2017 Fourth Quarter Postings and Appointments of its Officers. It will be recalled that recently some senior officers were promoted to the ranks of Brigadier Generals and Major Generals respectively, while some have also left service on completion of mandatory years of service in the Army. The posting is also aimed at injecting new hands to further actualize the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, which is “to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its Constitutional roles”.

The Nigerian President; Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday signed six bills including the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017 and the Niger Delta Development Commission (Establishment) Amendment Act, 2017 into laws. Sen. Ita Enang, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), made this known to State House correspondents in Abuja on Friday. According to him, the Gunshot Act specifically stipulates that a person with gunshot shall be received for immediate and adequate treatment by any hospital in Nigeria with or without initial monetary deposit.

The President Trump administration has dismissed all of the remaining members of the Obama-appointed Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA). This comes months after a half-dozen members resigned in protest of the Trump administration's position on health policies. The Washington Blade reported that the firings came without warning by way of a FedEx letter and were unexpected by most of its membership.

China To Ban Production Of 553 Car Models From Jan.1 To Fight Air Pollution

In another push to reduce city's harming emissions and its notorious smog ,China will effectively ban the local production of a total of 553 passenger car models starting from January 1. The announcement was made by the China Vehicle Technology Service Center, and affects vehicles that don't meet the country's fuel consumption and emissions requirements. The full list of banned cars is unknown,but it includes models from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Chevrolet, Volkswagen, and many more. Vehicles with internal codes FV7145LCDBG (Audi), BJ7302ETAL2 (Mercedes) and SGM7161DAA2 (Chevrolet), all of which are sedans, are affected by the sanction.

The man who was given a courtesy room for them to rest as family, but however they ran out of luck after they woke for early morning sex. It was gathered that by 6am, a man who leaned close to their room’s window to smoke heard the lady moaning, and alerted others. The two were then caught red-handed in the act, as the alerted crowd stormed the room with no locks.

Basem al-Hashimi al-Soul told influential local media agency, Egypt Today, that Saif al-Islam has the support and credentials required to end the chaos that has gripped Libya since the overthrow of his father Muammar Gadaffi in 2011.   “Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of the former Libyan president, enjoys the support of major tribes in Libya so he can run for the upcoming presidential elections due in 2018,” said Libyan Tribal Chief and spokesperson of the Gaddafi family, Basem al-Hashimi al-Soul.

FIFA issues licences to 29 Nigerian referees

According to the Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Referees Association, Kelechi Mejuobi, FIFA has presented badges to 29 Nigerian referees. They are 22 men and 7 women referees. He said the male referees consist of 14 centre referees and assistant referees, four futsal referees and four beach soccer referees. He said the seven women are all football referees and assistant referees.

The family of President Muhammadu Buhari is seriously considering flying their son abroad for advanced medical treatment, TheCable can report. Yusuf, who was involved in a bike accident at Gwarinmpa in Abuja on Tuesday night, is currently at Cedacrest Hospital in the nation’s capital. When press men visited the hospital on Wednesday evening, armed mobile policemen were seen guarding the place. Yusuf sustained a head injury and broke a limb in the accident, which made him undergo a surgery.

US satellites have spotted Chinese tankers transferring oil to North Korean ships 30 times in three months - despite strict UN trade embargoes, it has been claimed.  Overhead images appear to show ships from the two countries shackled together for a fuel transfer in the West Sea off China. Such ship-to-ship trades are banned under a UN Security Council resolution adopted in September. But according to South Korean government sources, American satellites have pictured large vessels from both China and North Korea illegally trading in a stretch of the West Sea on multiple occasions. One picture, reportedly taken on October 19, shows a ship called Ryesonggang 1 connected to a Chinese vessel, The Chosun Ilbo reports. The US Treasury Department later placed six North Korean shipping and trading companies and 20 of their vessels on sanctions list.

The U.S. Mission to the United Nations said on Sunday that the U.N.'s 2018-2019 budget would be slashed by over $285 million, which is 25% of what they give to the U.N. 7 arrested by Nigerian Police for selling new Naira notes

Selling newly minted naira notes is an offence that attracts six months imprisonment and seven suspects are now in police net for trading and hawking newly minted naira notes in Onitsha, Anambra state. According to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Umar, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has raised alarm over the illegal activity going on for a while now unchecked and calls for swift action to arrest the culprits who even brazenly display them in public as a product. Garba while addressing the press over the matter cites sections 20 and 21 of the CBN Act that makes it an offence for anyone to sell or hawk naira or coin issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, cautions citizens to desist from abusing the naira and says those arrested will be prosecuted.
