Thirteen people in China have been sentenced to death for selling drugs as part of a public hearing watched by some 10,000 people. According to local reports, they were accused of producing and selling drugs in the city of Shanwei, southern China's Guangdong province. The trial took place on June 24. Eight of those sentenced were executed immediately after the trial. 18 people were on trial at the joint court case by Shanwei Intermediate People's Court and the Lufeng People's Court, reported The Beijing News.

Police say victim Gau Kerketta dropped dead on the spot after his son's wife, Anima Kharia, lunged at him and grabbed his genitals like a vice. Cardinal Pell was summonsed from Rome on Thursday after Victoria police presented the charges to his Melbourne legal team and the court. He is due before Melbourne Magistrates court on July 18. Cardinal Pell has been accused of sexually abusing and grooming boys. The allegations date back to when Pell was a priest in Ballarat, Victoria, and Archbishop of Melbourne. The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the inclusion of youth corps members into the National Health Insurance Scheme. To this end, the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, is to collaborate with the Scheme to improve healthcare services to serving corps members throughout their one-year mandatory service year. The Health Minister, Isaac Adewole, told State House correspondents after the FEC meeting that the inclusion was aimed at preventing unnecessary deaths among youth corps members across the country. “Council approved the memo that henceforth we will include NYSC members in the National Health Insurance Scheme across the country.

Mr. Austin Okwor an operative in the Property Fraud Section of the EFCC Zonal office in Port Harcourt, had closed late for the day and as he left office, he was suddenly accosted by a gang of daredevil hoodlums who opened fire on him. A gang of Nigerian fraudsters are facing jail for for using the identities of MPs, judges and police officers during a £10million (4 Billion Naira)scam. The crew stole personal details from the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC), to make fraudulent claims over a four-year period. Member lists were ‘stolen to order’ from CSSC and used to place orders for tax credit starter packs used in fraudulent claims over a four year period. The gang managed to get away with nearly £2,500,000 before staff at Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs spotted the ‘extraordinarily high rate’ of claims being made by civil servants. If the scam had not been stopped it could have reaped more than £10,260,525. The prestigious U.S.$250,000 prize is given annually to a person who has worked to advance human development by “improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world”. Over a 31-year existence, the award has become known as the ‘Nobel Prize’ for food and agriculture. Rescuers scoured through rocks on Saturday in a frantic search for more than 140 people feared buried after a landslide smashed through a mountain village in southwestern China. A couple and a baby were rescued and taken to hospital after more than 40 homes in the village of Xinmo, in Maoxian County of China's Sichuan Province, were swallowed by huge boulders when the side of a mountain collapsed. At least 141 people and 46 homes were buried, according to Chinese media. The landslide blocked a 1.24 mile section of a river.

The President made this known while addressing Bagamoyo District residents during his three-day-tour of Coast Region on Thursday. Magufuli accused some of the nongovernmental organisations (NGOs), which have been urging the Tanzanian government to allow teen mothers back to school, of being used by foreign agents. “There are many things that girls, who are impregnated can do after delivery; they can join VETA (Vocational Education Training Authority centres), they can learn sewing but they can’t go back to school,” said President Magufuli.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has urged GCE candidates to endeavour to collect their certificates within four years of writing the examination as any delay beyond that will attract custody fee. Demianus Ojijeogu, the Head of Public Affairs Department, WAEC, Nigeria disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja. NEMA confirms 16 killed in Maiduguri suicide attacks

At least 16 people were killed in two suicide attacks on a community on the outskirts of Maiduguri on Sunday night, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said on Monday. News men reported the suicide attacks on Dalori with a witness saying at least eight corpses were recovered. The NEMA, in a statement by a spokesperson, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said the two different attacks caused at least 16 deaths.
