Elder statesmen, Chief Tony Anenih dies at 85

Chief Tony Anenih, a former Minister of Works and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is dead.  The former Minister of Works celebrated his 85th birthday on Saturday, August 4, 2018, where he complained about his health saying, t'he celebration is necessary over my health, current state of mind, with the unfortunate recent losses that befell my family in quick succession”. Late Anenih was born in Uzenema-Arue in Uromi 85 years ago. In 1951, he joined the Nigeria police force in Benin City. Working at home, he obtained secondary school qualifications. He attended the police college in Ikeja, and was selected for further training in the Bramshill Police College, Basingstoke, England in 1966 and the International Police Academy, Washington DC in 1970.  He served as a police orderly to the first Governor General of Nigeria, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. He worked as an instructor in various police colleges, and in 1975 was assigned to the Administrative Staff College (ASCON), Lagos.

Thousands of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and Arba'een mourners, marched towards Abuja earlier today for the annual Arbaeen annual trek. Members of the sect were pictured marching towards the federal capital territory despite the killing of over six of their members by soldiers yesterday at Zuba bridge in Abuja. The followers of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky converged in Abuja to embark on the Arbaeen Symbolic Trek to mark the day that Yazid bn Mu’awiyyah killed Imam Hussain Ibn Ali and his family.

Billionaire Leicester City FC owner died in helicopter fireball alongside 'two crew and two other passengers' (PHOTOS)

Tearful Leicester City fans gathered to lay flowers at the King Power Stadium today after the owner's helicopter came crashing down to earth and burst into flames shortly after taking off from the ground last night. The helicopter was carrying popular owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, 60, two crew members and two passengers when it took off from the centre circle after Leicester's draw with West Ham yesterday evening. Police and the club are yet to release an official statement on the tragedy, but the BBC have reported a source close to the Thai billionaire's family said he and the four others died in the crash.

Cardi B and Nicki Minaj's beef took an ugly turn this week On Sunday Cardi's sister Hennessy Carolina accused Nicki of leaking her rival's phone number on the Internet. While she didn't name the Chun Li rapper by name, there could be no doubt who she was talking about, as she explained why she was tangling with Nicki's fans, or Barbz. 'Ya asking why I’m beefing with a fan base but ya not asking why someone with so much influence would use their influence to manipulate their fans to spread so much negativity and hate!' she wrote in an Instagram post.

A lady was beaten up and robbed  by a Taxify driver yesterday in Victoria Island, Lagos. An Instagram user who said he met her crying by the roadside, shared photos of her face dripping of blood from the attack. He wrote;

FG Summons Govs over minimum wage disagreement, to avert strike action

The federal government has commenced moves to prevent a general strike ahead of the November 6 deadline set by organised labour following disagreement over a new minimum wage for workers. Consequently, the federal government has fixed a meeting on Monday to come up with a new national minimum wage. The minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, told State House correspondents yesterday that an“enlarged meeting of all key stakeholders in the government circle at both federal and states has been scheduled for Monday.”

Manchester United charged by Uefa after fans ran onto the pitch vs Juventus

MANCHESTER UNITED have been charged by Uefa after several fans ran onto the pitch during and after their Champions League defeat to Juventus. Early in the first half one man entered the field of play as United were preparing to take a corner. Then at the end of the game another supporter made a desperate attempt to get close to returning hero Cristiano Ronaldo. Other fans also ran onto the pitch during and after the game, and Uefa has confirmed it has opened an investigation into the incidents.

With fans already fuming at yet another dreary showing, Pogba, 25, only made things worse with his post-match antics. Juve winger Juan Cuadrado shared an snap of himself and Pogba in the away dressing room after the game. The World Cup-winning midfielder is seen clutching a Juventus gift bag and sticking two fingers up to the camera. And United fans quickly began to speculate as to the contents of the bag, with many guessing - or perhaps hoping - it was a contract to join the Serie A giants.

Lagos partners pharmacists to monitor drugs containing human parts

The Lagos State Government says it is partnering with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) to prevent the sales of Chinese Drugs allegedly containing human parts in the Nigerian markets. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the Association of General Private Nursing Practitioners (AGPNP) on Wednesday in Lagos. Idris told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the state government was seriously keeping an eye on areas it felt would be at risk of these drugs. NAFDAC had since assured Nigerians of safety, warning people to beware of the poisonous drugs.

Court grants Fayose N50 million bail

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday granted a N50 million bail to former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, who is facing N2.2bn fraud charges. Justice Mojisola Olatoregun granted Fayose bail with two sureties in like sum. Olatoregun ordered Fayose to be remanded in prison until he was able to fulfill his bail conditions. Fayose’s counsel, Mr Kanu Agabi SAN, in his submission urged the court to grant the accused bail on the ground that he voluntarily submitted himself to the EFCC a day after leaving office as Governor of Ekiti State, and that in addition, Fayose had no criminal record.

FEC approves contract for rehabilitation of Lagos-Badagry Expressway

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, on Wednesday approved contract for the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The road had been in dilapidated state for long, as the Lagos State Government failed to carry out full work on the road after it promised to convert it to 10-lane expressway. This was revealed by the Federal Government’s twitter handle @Asorock on Wednesday.
