Buhari given ultimatum to account for all foreign loans - SERAP

President Muhammadu Buhari has been handed an ultimatum to provide details of all loans obtained by the government since 29 May 2015, including details and locations of projects on which the loans have been spent. Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), which gave the ultimatum said if President Buhari fails to comply within seven days, it will take all appropriate legal actions under the Freedom of Information Act to force his compliance. In a letter to President Buhari, SERAP also urged Buhari to “set up an independent audit of all loans to resolve any allegations of mismanagement and corruption. The letter was also sent to which also sent to the Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed and Director-General of the Debt Management Office, Ms Patience Oniha. Enugu Fire Service Begins Decontamination Of Ogbete Main Market (PHOTOS)

Sequel to further directive of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Enugu State Fire Service, on Saturday, commenced the decontamination and fumigation of Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, Vibesngists Blog reports. It would be recalled that the state fire service carried out the first phase of the exercise in the market on April 1, 2020, shortly after it was shut down by the state government as part of the proactive safety measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in the state. During the first phase of the decontamination of the market, monitored by Gov. Ugwuanyi and heads of security agencies in the state, the State Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa, hinted newsmen that “the state government will fumigate major markets in the state before they are reopened”.

Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100 level student of the University of Benin, from the department of Microbiology, faculty of Life Sciences, has died from injuries sustained from rape. The 22-year-old victim was said to have been raped on Friday 29th May near Ikpoba Hill in Benin City, at her church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Igbere TV gathered that the deceased had gone to the church to read as usual, in preparation for the lifting of the coronavirus-imposed shutdown of schools. The perpetrators were said to have attacked her at the RCCG Ohovbe road branch, raped and smashed her head with a fire extinguisher, leaving her for dead.

Nigerian HIT-MAKER; Cobhams Asuquo bags UNICEF appointment

Award-winning Nigerian musician, producer, and songwriter, Cobhams Asuquo has been appointed as the National Ambassador to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). UNICEF Nigeria Representative, Mr. Peter Hawkins, made the announcement in a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday. According to Hawkins, the appointment made Cobhams the first National Ambassador of UNICEF Nigeria in the last 15 years. Hawkins explained that as UNICEF National Ambassador, Asuquo would help raise awareness on concerns around children’s rights and solutions. He will also play a vital role in issues concerning birth registration, immunization, education, and protection from violence.

"Expect flight delays" - Nigerian airports to resume

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said it has put in place arrangements on passenger facilitation, ahead of resumption of flights. The General Manager Corporate Affairs of FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, stated this while speaking at an aviation webinar organised by Women in Aviation (WIA) Nigeria with the theme: “Aviation: The New Norm in the post COVID-19.” Yakubu warned passengers to expect delays and long hours of checks and re-checks from when they arrive the airport until they depart.

SCARY: Millions Of Locusts Attack India, Residential Areas Turning Sky Black (PHOTOS)

A locust plague swarmed across India and coursed through built up towns. Footage shows a surge of insects covering the sky and forcing the villagers to run for shelter. A man, who filmed the moment, can be heard behind the camera: “There are billions and trillions. “There are uncountable numbers of locusts flying in the sky, this is something I have never ever seen in my life." He then turns the camera to a roof floor which has changed colour by a mass of the insects. Within a matter of seconds, the locusts entirely cover a stairway. The insects went on to ravage plants and send the agricultural workers into a frenzy. Millions of locusts blanketed the sky during the second plague in Jaipur, India, which took place on May 25. A local emergency was reportedly declared in the city and in nearby agricultural areas of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Officials have been spraying insecticides on crops to ward off the ravenous pests.

Governor Wike cancels lockdown in Rivers state; weddings and burials remain banned

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has cancelled the lockdown earlier imposed in the state as part of measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus. On May 7, the governor announced a 24-hour lockdown in Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas of the state. However, in a state broadcast this afternoon, Governor Wike announced the lifting of the lockdown. He said no part of Rivers state will be under lockdown from May 26. '' In the last two months we have implemented several calculated measures in response to the outbreak of the coronavirus in our State. Some of these measures were severe, but necessary, including the total lockdown of Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas, which are, without doubt, the social and economic never-centres of our State.

Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, has dismissed media reports that President Buhari has cancelled over 150 memos and appointments signed off by his former Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, who died on April 17, after battling COVID-19   Reports were rife on Monday with claims that the President cancelled the appointments made by late Kyari after his new Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, resumed office. The reports claimed that the memos and appointments made by the late Kyari were done without the approval of the President, hence they were cancelled. However, in a statement released this night, Garba described the report as ''Fake News''. 

276 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Nigeria

According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), 161 cases were recorded in Lagos, 36 in Rivers, 27 in Edo, 19 -Kaduna, 10 in Nasarawa, 6 in Oyo-, 4 in Kano, 3 in Delta, 3 in Ebonyi, 2 in Gombe, 1 in Ogun, 1 in Ondo, 1 in Borno, 1 in Abia, and 1 in Bauchi State.  276 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.  In total, Nigeria has now recorded 8344 cases of COVID-19. 2385 patients have been discharged from various Isolation centers across the country, while 249 deaths have been recorded.
