Video: 3 Storey Buildings Collapse In Aba, One Dead, Another Trapped

One person died when a three- storey building collapsed at Old Express off Sameck junction by Faulks road in Aba, Abia State on Wednesday. The incident followed the collapse of another uncompleted three-storey building at Park road by East after a torrential rain that wrecked havocs in Aba and Umuahia, the state capital. While the incident at park road was attributed to use of inferior materials by the contractor, it was gathered the building at Old Express collapsed into the ground as a result of persistent waterlog that weakened its foundation. Efforts were still ongoing at the time of filing the report to rescue one of the trapped tenants in the rubble. The trapped resident was said to have called his relatives to inform them he was under the collapsed structure at Old Express. Armed policemen have reportedly stopped a protest march being organized by a group of activist in Lagos. The activists under the auspicies, Orange movement, had decided to stage a rally this morning to appeal to residents of the state to come out enmass to vote against the Bola Tinubu candidate in the March 9th governorship election. The group argued that a vote for the governorship candidate of Bola Tinubu, is an extension of his ''rule'' in Lagos state. The president of Dangote Group significantly moved up in the world billionaires’ list after he gained $5.8bn within 24 hours and his total net worth rose to $16.6bn on Tuesday. Dangote, who was previously ranked as the 103rd richest person in the world, remains the richest man in Africa for the eighth year running. Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a ranking of the world’s 500 richest people, showed that Dangot's wealth fell from $10.5bn at the end of 2018 to $9.63bn on January 1, 2019. Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed an application from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC to order the final forfeiture of $8.4 million and N7.4 billion linked to former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. The judge had in April 2018 ordered the temporary forfeiture of the funds which EFCC said were suspected to be proceeds of crime. Although the exact country he was taken to for the operation, hasn't been revealed. The news of the surgery comes after Majid revealed in an interview last year that two years ago, he noticed his voice had started 'breaking'. “Over two years ago, I was travelling and then suddenly my voice started breaking and it’s been like this for over two years now”, he said. PDP Refuses To Sign Presidential Election Result Sheet

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have refused to sign the result sheet of the Presidential election which was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja early this morning. According to the results announced by the electoral body, President Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC)had highest votes of 15,191, 847 votes to defeat his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP who polled 11,262,978 votes. Buhari won in 19 states while Atiku won in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Shortly after the result was announced, the chairman of the commission, Yakubu Mahmood, called on everyone to come forward to sign the result sheet. However, the PDP representative, Osita Chidoka, left the hall at the National Collation Centre. In an interview with newsmen, Chidoka said his party does not accept the election result for three reasons. He said that the party had expected INEC would project the result of the Smart Card Readers used for accreditation

How Buhari won Kano with an overwhelming margin

Out of the 75 parties compiled during the collation exercise of the Presidential elections from the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano, President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC has defeated his opponents with 1,464,768 votes. The figures were declared at about 3:00 am on Tuesday at the Kano headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC by the state Collation Officer Professor Magaji Garba of the Federal University of Gusau. The total registered voters in the state is 5,391,581 but only 1,964,651 votes were cast of which 73,617 were declared as rejected votes. This has placed the APC as having 74% in the elections.
