One person died when a three- storey building collapsed at Old Express off Sameck junction by Faulks road in Aba, Abia State on Wednesday. The incident followed the collapse of another uncompleted three-storey building at Park road by East after a torrential rain that wrecked havocs in Aba and Umuahia, the state capital. While the incident at park road was attributed to use of inferior materials by the contractor, it was gathered the building at Old Express collapsed into the ground as a result of persistent waterlog that weakened its foundation. Efforts were still ongoing at the time of filing the report to rescue one of the trapped tenants in the rubble. The trapped resident was said to have called his relatives to inform them he was under the collapsed structure at Old Express. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has alleged that the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has concluded plans to disrupt the March 9, 2019 Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state. Armed policemen have reportedly stopped a protest march being organized by a group of activist in Lagos. The activists under the auspicies, Orange movement, had decided to stage a rally this morning to appeal to residents of the state to come out enmass to vote against the Bola Tinubu candidate in the March 9th governorship election. Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed an application from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC to order the final forfeiture of $8.4 million and N7.4 billion linked to former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. The judge had in April 2018 ordered the temporary forfeiture of the funds which EFCC said were suspected to be proceeds of crime. Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has described those doubting the election results from his state as unserious and ignorant. Ghanaian media is reporting that famous actor- turned preacher, Majid Michel has been flown out of Ghana to undergo throat surgery. Although the exact country he was taken to for the operation, hasn't been revealed. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have refused to sign the result sheet of the Presidential election which was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja early this morning. According to the results announced by the electoral body, President Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC)had highest votes of 15,191, 847 votes to defeat his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP who polled 11,262,978 votes. Buhari won in 19 states while Atiku won in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Shortly after the result was announced, the chairman of the commission, Yakubu Mahmood, called on everyone to come forward to sign the result sheet. However, the PDP representative, Osita Chidoka, left the hall at the National Collation Centre. In an interview with newsmen, Chidoka said his party does not accept the election result for three reasons. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Tuesday “declared inconclusive” the senatorial election in Imo North. The INEC Public Relations Officer in the state, Emmanuella Opara, confirmed the development, according to Punch Newspaper. The newspaper said it was reliably informed by an INEC official that “glaring cases of malpractices made the electoral umpire to declare the exercise inconclusive.” Isiala Mbano, Ihitte/Uboma and Obowo are the three local governments most affected. With six Local Government Areas (LGAs) and only two federal constituencies, Imo North is relatively the smallest senatorial district in the state. Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode has asked the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to reject the results of the presidential election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and call for a civil disobedience. The Collation Officer for the Presidential election in Kano, Prof. Magaji Garba, announced this on Tuesday following the collation of the result from the 44 local government areas of the state. The results from the presidential election in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State will “be looked into as a special case”, said the state collation officer, Aniefiok Essien, after officials brought the results a third time.
