According to reports on the Guardian, Former Governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha, has approached a Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking an order of perpetual injunction, restraining the Imo State government and its agents from arresting, detaining, harassing or acting in any manner that infringes on his rights. In a suit filed by his counsel, Alaezi Nmezi, Okorocha, who now represents Imo West Senatorial District, asked the court to declare the order for his arrest and detention by the state government as unconstitutional, illegal, unlawful and violation of his rights. Listing the Imo State Government, Attorney General of the state, Secretary to State Government (SSG) and the Chairman, Imo State Property Recover Committee as first, second, third and fourth respondents, Okorocha prayed the court to enforce his fundamental rights under the Nigerian Constitution and the African Charter on Human & People’s Rights Act.

Chidinma’s arrest comes two days after her Enugu branch Coordinator, Nwonu Priscilla Chika was apprehended by operatives of the Commission following a raid on the premises of the club at No 79 Nike Road, Abakpa Nike, Enugu, Enugu State. Three promoters and newly recruited staff of the organisation were arrested in the operation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has obtained orders for the interim forfeiture of assets traced to a former Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha, and his wife. The Head, Enugu Zonal Office of the commission, Usman Imam, said this Wednesday in Enugu while briefing journalists on the activities of the commission in the last eight months. Mr Imam said the commission also obtained similar order on a property traced to a former aide to Mr Okorocha, Paschal Obi, and the former governor’s daughter. He said the commission had established prima facie cases against the suspects which they would answer to. Mr Imam said the commission would like to know how the Rochas Foundation and other accomplices acquired and or converted some of the property for personal use. He listed some of the property to include a 16-block cum 96 flats and an eight-bungalow multimillion naira estate, hotel, two schools, shopping plaza, supermarket, hospital, and four vehicles.

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday inaugurated its Agro-Rangers unit to check farmers and herders clashes in the state. The State Commandant of the Corps, Lucy Samu, said during the occasion that the inauguration presented an opportunity for the nation to be hopeful security-wise and embrace peace. Ms Samu said the agro-rangers had received one of the most rigorous trainings from the Nigerian military and were ready for action. “They have been specially trained to provide security to agro-allied facilities, agro allied-based industries, investments and ranches nationwide. “This is aimed at bringing to a halt the incessant incidences of herders and farmers clashes, which usually lead to senseless killings and wanton destruction of property. “All who are into agricultural production are allowed to apply for security from the NSCDC,” she said.

The Uyo Zonal Office of the Eonomic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday September 2, 2019, arrested six suspected internet fraudsters, who specialized in hacking into Facebook accounts of unsuspecting victims and defraud persons in the compromised accounts’ contact list. They were arrested in a two-bedroom apartment, located on No. 54 Church Road, Off Calabar Itu Expressway, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, following intelligence report on their nefarious activities. The all-male suspects are: Lawrence Nnamdi-Mba Ebesike; Prince E. Udeh; Chijioke Victor; Promise Odimba; Ugbor Ifeanyi and Prince Anthony, all within 22 and 29 years age bracket.

The Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it arrested at least 113 internet fraud suspects in eight months through its ‘Operation Re-wire’. Muktar Bello, Head of Operations, EFCC in the zone, said this on Monday during a news conference in Benin. Mr Bello said the arrests took place between January and August in its area of jurisdiction, including Edo, Delta, and Ondo states. According to him, the arrests were made possible because of the anti-graft commission’s new strategic plans to tackle the menace of cybercrimes in the zone. He said the commission secured 53 convictions during the period under review, while other cases were still pending in different courts. He said that several exotic cars, laptops, mobile phones, flash drives, internet modems and charms were recovered from the suspects. The police and other security personnel in Lagos have foiled an attempt by irate Nigerians to burn a Shoprite location in Lekki, Lagos. Witnesses uploaded videos of the incident which occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Shoprite outlet by Jakande Bus-Stop. A resident of a nearby estate, Gboyega Bashorun, also told the Press he was returning home from work when he noticed a raging inferno. “I was coming back from work around 3:30 when I suddenly noticed a burning fire at the Shoprite by Jakande Bus-Stop,” Mr Bashorun, a technical assistant, said. “I saw a raging fire and saw several police vans and other security people at the entrance.” “The Mobil and SPG gas stations nearby also closed their gates. I later gathered that it was a retaliation for what happened in South Africa,” he added.
