The Enugu State Police Command has smashed a six-man armed robbery gang and captured four of the gang members operating within 9th Mile Corner on the outskirts of Enugu. The police also recovered three locally made guns from the suspects and nine GSM phones belonging to travelers they had robbed. The Command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement on Monday that the armed gang had been robbing travelers coming from Lagos and heading towards Benue State for Christmas before they were confronted by police operatives.

A North Korean soldier who defected to the South has been found to have anthrax antibodies in his bloodstream, local news reports. The unidentified soldier, believed to be the man who defected in November this year, would have been either exposed to or vaccinated against anthrax before he defected to South Korea.  This comes after a report that North Korea is conducting biological weapons experiments to test the possibility of loading anthrax-laden warheads on its intercontinental ballistic missiles. 'Anthrax antibodies have been found in the North Korean soldier who defected this year,' a South Korean intelligence official told local news network Channel A according to UPI.

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, University of Calabar, has advised the Federal Government to stop establishing more universities and enhance the standard of existing ones. Iwuanyanwu gave the advice in an interview in Atta Ikeduru, Imo, on Tuesday.
