Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Dame Julie Okah – Donli, has alerted the nation and the entire Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament of the imminent xenophobic attack on Nigeria victims of human trafficking trapped in the mining region of Mali. The development came on the heel of the resolution by the ECOWAS parliament to visit the controversial mining region of Mali where thousands of Nigerians victims of human trafficking are being held in sex slavery and exploitation in order to ensure their freedom. The NAPTIP Director General raised the alarm on the floor of the ECOWAS Parliament while briefing members on the report of the fact-finding team that visited the North African Country to assess the human trafficking situation and work out the modality of evacuating the stranded victims. Chelsea have been crowned champions of the Europa League competition after thrashing Arsenal 4-1 to lift the trophy on Wednesday night at Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan. The Gunners had a good start into the game, but Chelsea ran riot in the second half with three goals in quick succession following a disastrous second-half performance from Arsenal. Former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, broke the goalless deadlock with a wonderful header in the 49th minute before Pedro Rodríguez doubled Chelsea's lead in the 60th minutes. Eden Hazard added a third in the 65th minutes after Giroud was fouled in the box.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and 393 other passengers, escaped a plane crash in Lagos. According to reports, the former president was among the passengers onboard an Ethiopian Airlines plane that found it difficult to land at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The Ethiopian Airlines aircraft, ET-901, had departed the Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa, at 9:10am, Ethiopian time (7am Nigerian time). Five hours after flying, the plane attempted to make a landing at the Lagos Airport but failed.

The newly inaugurated governor of Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, has said he would scrap the N3, 000 being paid by pupils of all public primary and secondary schools in the state and also promised to donate his salary to pensioners. He admitted that the greatest challenge confronting the state was the issue of poverty and promised to tackle it with a drastic leap in agriculture, just as he pledged to look into the issue of over 400, 000 out-of school-children in the state.
