South Korea launches commercial 5G network that can download an entire movie in less than a SECOND

South Korea is preparing to launch the world's largest super-fast 5G mobile internet.
Friday's launch will see the service go live across the country in 85 different cities and users with 5G-enabled devices will be able to download data 20 times faster than existing 4G.
US rival AT&T became the first in the world to lunch a commercial 5G network in December 2018 and is currently available in 12 US cities.

South Korea's 5G network is expected to let users download entire movies in less than a second and paves the way for faster video streaming as well as AI and VR powered products.
Customers will need to have 5G-enabled devices in order to use the service, with the upcoming Samsung S10 likely to be a popular choice in the tech-savvy country.
The news comes on the same day as a study found that the economic benefits to the UK could be up to £15.7 billion ($20.66 billion) by 2025 if 5G's roll out is accelerated.

South Korea is in a race with China, the United States and Japan to market 5G, with firms like Samsung, Huawei and Apple pioneering 5G tech.
South Korea is hoping the technology will spur breakthrough in fields such as smart cities and autonomous cars, and drive economic growth after 2018's six-year low.
'It is meaningful that South Korean telecom companies are providing services and networks meeting South Korean customers' high standard in speed and picture quality,' Ryu Young-sang, executive vice president at the country's top mobile carrier SK Telecom, said on Wednesday.

5G will change the landscape of the gaming industry as it allows games streamed with minimal delay to be played on smartphones, Mr Young-sang added.
South Korean carriers have spent billions on campaigns marketing 5G and, on Wednesday, SK Telecom showed off K-pop stars and an Olympic gold medalist as its first 5G customers.
SK Telecom is working with its memory-chip making affiliate SK Hynix to build a highly digitised and connected factory powered by 5G technology, Ryu said.

The operator expects about one million 5G customers by end-2019. It has a total of 27 million users.
Smaller rival KT Corp is set to offer cheaper plans than its LTE service, with unlimited data and 4-year instalments to buy 5G devices.
